your story matters

Are you feeling misunderstood, anxious, or struggling to feel good about yourself? It can be extremely isolating, and shame typically keeps us from reaching out for help. I know the feeling, and I can help.

I’ve had a natural curiosity for people from the time I was a young girl. As a child, I remember being fascinated with understanding why each person behaved differently, had varied interests, and liked different things. I was eager to learn as much as I could about people, whether it be my teacher, the mail man, or friends at school. Looking back, it’s really not a shock that I became a therapist. I’ve always enjoyed talking to people and walking hand in hand through their triumphs and struggles.

“Our brains are wired for connection, but trauma rewires them for protection. That’s why healthy relationships are difficult for wounded people.”

When I first started counseling, I realized I have a passion for helping individuals heal from their past traumas. Most people hear the word “trauma” and don’t think it applies to them. The reality is that each and every one of us has experienced trauma. We can experience trauma when we go through a divorce, are dealing with infidelity, or when we lose a loved one. While I work with many cases of trauma and PTSD, I also specialize in relationship issues, anxiety, and depression.

I believe in a holistic approach to wellness. This essentially means that we will look at every area of your life (social, medical, spiritual, relational, etc.) to fully understand what is going on. Your doctor wouldn’t only look at your arm if you were going in for a full check-up, and I believe you should receive the same holistic care during therapy.

My goal is to help you feel worthy, loved, and accepted (because you are!). This belief informs and guides my work as a therapist. I’m a firm believer that therapy shouldn’t be miserable -- laughter and humor are vital parts of healing. We will work together as a team so that you can experience growth and transformation.

I frequently utilize Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with my clients. EMDR is a cutting edge therapy used to heal from trauma, anxieties, and other disturbing experiences. I like EMDR because it’s both effective and efficient. If appropriate, you and I can decide together if it’s something you could benefit from.

A self-proclaimed bookworm, I love to read, cook, and spend time with my husband, our daughter, and our dog, Ralphie. I attended Baylor University for my Bachelor’s degree, and I graduated with my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas.
